Pearl McHaney is the Kenneth M. England Professor of Southern Literature at Georgia State University. In 2014, she published A Tyrannous Eye: Eudora Welty’s Nonfiction and Photography and received the Phoenix Award from the Eudora Welty Society. She is the editor of Eudora Welty as Photographer, winner of the Eudora Welty Prize; Occasions: Selected Writings by Eudora Welty; Eudora Welty: Contemporary Reviews; and A Writer’s Eye: Collected Reviews by Eudora Welty. She has lectured and published on work by southern writers William Faulkner, Barry Hannah, Caroline Miller, Natasha Trethewey, and Tennessee Williams. She also directs Southern Writers Onstage, a series of dramatic readings, in cooperation with Theatrical Outfit in Atlanta, and this spring she is presenting the lecture series “Connecting Lines: Building Empathy through Literature” for the Georgia Center for the Book.
